Details
Falls are a leading cause of fatal and non fatal injuries in the elderly. In this seminar we take an indepth look at risk factors, including extrinsic and intrinsic, how to be a primary influence in reducing them. Included in the intrinsic risk factors are vision, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, nutrition, orthostatic hypotension, neuropathy, incontinence, pharmacology, drop attacks, bppv, and other balance and mobility impairments. We look at the role shoes and restraints may play in increasing the risk of falls in some elderly. There is a discussion of the cost that falls have on the elderly, including physiological , psychological and economic costs, and we introduce screens that might better help the clinician identify those people who are more at risk for falls with a discussion of these screens. We look at prevention techniques including tai chi , geri dance, breathing exercise and more. There is a tai chi video class, led by a tai chi master. Included, also, is a section on documentation. Coclude with case studies.

Testimonials
Mrs. Ann was very thorough when explaining different reasons why a patient may be falling (med related, shoe related, environmental hazards, etc.) It helped me to realize that I need to look more at the ENTIRE patient instead of what their main problem is:
A. M., PTA, Columbia, MS
(I liked)the amount of information beneficial to my job.:
K.R., PT, Ruleville, MS
Presenter was very knowledgable.:
J.G., PT, Maumelle, AR
Very informative and helpful information that I am able to use in my practice setting.:
S.C., OTA, Vicksburg, MS
(I liked)the overall view of balance tests-a great representation of the details in which we should access to provide the most ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS.:
J.V., Columbus, MS
