The first step in fall prevention for the elderly is being able to Identify the Fall Risks. In this seminar we will take an in-depth view of risk factors, extrinsic as well as intrinsic. We will be looking at shoe wear, various disease processes, decreased vision, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, orthostatic hypotension, nutrition, incontinence, pharmacology, drop attacks, restraints and other balance and mobility impairments.
At the end of the day a form will be introduced and utilized that will help bring today's information together for the participants, a form they can take home and begin using tomorrow with your patients. 6.5 clock hours.
Objectives:
Participant will be aware of the impact falls have on the elderly.
Participants will be able to identify extrinsic and intrinsic fall risk factors.
Participants will be knowledgeable of the effect that various disease processes have on increasing the fall risk in the elderly.
Participants will use a fall risk assessment form to pull the days information together, that they can take back to use at work the following day.
Participants will return to work with an in-depth knowledge of risk factors for falls.
Schedule:
7:30 - 8:00
Coffee and registration/sign-in
8:00 - 11:15
Pre-test, facts and stats, concerns, overview of risk factors. Begin detailed look at risk factors.
11:15 - 12:15
Lunch on your own
12:15 - 4:00
Complete detailed look at risk factors, utilize fall risk form with group case study/presentation/post-test.

Alabama:
AL PT Board no longer approved cont. ed.It is the licensee’s responsibility, using her/his professional judgment, to determine if the continuing education activities they complete are applicable, appropriate, and meet the requirements of the Board .; Meets cont. ed requirements for OT/OTA for 7.8 hr. AL OT Board states regarding CE for OT/OTA,"COURSE PROVIDERS: Please be advised you do not have to have pre-approval for courses offered. We will honor any coursework relevant to the practice of occupational therapy and any coursework approved by another health profession board or organization"
Arkansas:
Approved by AR State Board of PT 6.5 hours; the AR state Board of Medical Examiners, no longer prior approves cont. Ed. They have said it is up to the individual therapist to determine if it is appropriate cont. ed. for them and their profession.
Florida:
Approved provider in FL for OT/OTA 7.8 hours.;
Georgia:
GA Board of PT doesn't approve CE. It is the licensee's responsibility to review requirements in Board rule 490-4-.02 and policy #7 to ensure it meets criteria. GA Board of OT doesn't approve CE. It is the licensee's responsibility to review Board rule 671-3-.08 to ensure it meets criteria
Louisiana:
Prior approved by LSBPTE for PT/PTA 6.5 hrs.;Pending re-approval in LA for OT/OTA by LA State Board of Medical Examiners
Missouri:
In recognition of this program, the 6.5 hours continuing Education hours has been awarded by Lagniappe Seminars in co-sponsorship with the Missouri Physical Therapy Association.
Mississippi:
Approved by MS State Board of Health for 6.5 hours for OT/OTA; prior approved by MS State Board of Physical Therapy for 6.5 hours for PT/PTA.
North Carolina:
Approved by NCBOT for 6.5 hr. for OT/OTA; According to Rule .0108 NC PT Board, "If a course or continuing educational activity has been approved by another state PT licensure board, State chapter of or Sec. of APTA, the course is considered approved in NC" for PT/PTA
Oklahoma:

TN Board of Physical Therapy does not prior approval Cont. Ed. Seminars. PT: "Aside from Jurisprudence and Ethics the TN PT Board does not offer approval for Class I or Class 2 Cont. Ed. seminars, according to Rule 1150-01-.12.The TN PT Board leaves it up to the discretion of the therapist to determine if the course is appropriate and would meet the requirements for cont. ed in TN.; TN Board of OT according to Rules governing >; TN OT Therapy, does not prior approval Cont.Ed. seminars.
